Why We Chose It

LightStream offers large loan amounts and lengthy loan terms, up to 240 months for some loan uses. Its APRs are competitive, its maximum loan amount is $100,000, and it offers same-day funding.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Low APRs

  • No fees

  • Loan amounts up to $100,000

  • Same-day funding

Cons

  • No pre-qualification

  • Requires good to excellent credit

  • Limited customer support options

Overview

LightStream scores well in all the areas that matter most to most borrowers in our ranking system. Advertised APRs are competitive, there are no origination or late payment fees, and it offers long repayment terms and loan amounts of up to $100,000. If you sign up for autopay, you can shave 0.50 percentage points off of your APR. If you find a better rate on a loan from another lender, LightStream will beat it by 0.10%.

Same-day funding is available (as long as you complete your application by 2:30 p.m. EST). You can also delay funding up to 90 days.

Although LightStream is our top choice, it isn’t the perfect lender. It doesn’t offer loan pre-qualification, which Investopedia considers a vital shopping tool. LightStream is a solid choice if you have good to excellent credit, but you’ll have to shop elsewhere if your credit is fair or poor. Finally, LightStream’s customer service options are limited to telephone support.

LightStream is the online-lending arm of Truist Bank, which was formed by a merger between BB&T and SunTrust Bank in 2019. Truist is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Also Good for Repayment Terms : SoFi

Investopedia’s Rating 4.7 out of 5 stars SoFi

  • Loan Amount: $5,000 – $100,000
  • Loan Terms: 24 months – 84 months

Why We Chose It

Many of the lenders we researched offer maximum repayment terms of 60 months. SoFi will let you pay off a personal loan over seven years. That might mean a monthly payment for an IVF loan that fits your budget better.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • High loan maximum

  • Long loan terms

  • Same-day funding

Cons

  • Optional origination fees

  • Lowest rates require a SoFi bank account

Overview

Only a few lenders we researched offer repayment terms longer than SoFi’s 84 months. Longer loan terms push down monthly payments and make repayment more affordable. (The catch is you’ll wind up paying more in interest.) With SoFi, you also get membership benefits and perks, such as free financial planning and discounts on other banking and financial products it offers.

Customer experience is one of SoFi’s strengths. It ranked fourth in J.D. Power’s 2024 U.S. Consumer Lending Satisfaction Study. SoFi also received an Investopedia Combined Consumer Review rating of 4.4 (out of 5 possible), a calculated aggregate of consumer review ratings on Trustpilot and the Better Business Bureau (BBB) developed by Investopedia’s researchers.

In past years, SoFi promoted its total lack of fees. Things are different now, and SoFi allows borrowers to pay an origination fee of up to 7% in exchange for a lower overall interest rate. You still won’t face late fees or prepayment penalties.

SoFi, founded in 2011, started as a fintech specializing in student loans. Today, it offers many more banking and financial products, including checking and savings accounts, home loans, investment accounts, insurance, and more. It’s headquartered in San Francisco.
